BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in Beijing have urged the public to take precautions and stay cool as the heatwave continues to grip the city.
According to the Beijing Meteorological Observatory, temperatures in the city's central area ranged from 34.7 to 35.6 degrees Celsius at noon on Sunday.
A yellow warning was issued at 2:30 p.m. Friday, with meteorologists forecasting that high temperatures will persist in the coming week.
The local government has advised the public to limit outdoor activities and stay hydrated. Those working outdoors, such as construction workers, traffic police, sanitation staff and couriers, are encouraged to adjust their working hours to prevent heat-related illnesses like sunstroke and heatstroke.
Authorities have also cautioned the public to use electricity safely to prevent fire hazards and urged parents to closely supervise their children, who may be at risk of drowning while trying to cool off in rivers. ■
