TUNIS, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Japan has decided to partially lift a travel ban on Tunisia imposed since 2015, citing improved security conditions, Tunisian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

Travel restrictions for Japanese tourists to visit the greater Tunis area, including Tunis, Ariana, Manouba and Ben Arous, and the governorates of Nabeul, Zaghouan, Beja, Siliana, Kairouan, Sfax, Sousse, Monastir and Mahdia will be lifted, the ministry said.

It said that Japanese authorities have expressed satisfaction with the efforts made by the Tunisian security apparatus in these regions to prevent terror attacks.

Lifting the Japanese travel ban on Tunisia was one of the objectives of the official visit to Tokyo, Japan last November by Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemais Jhinaoui.

The ministry added that Tunisia is currently seeking to press Japan to lift travel restrictions on more regions, especially the southeastern and western Tunisian governorates, including Tozeur and Tataouine, two most favorite Saharan destinations for tourists. Enditem
