OSLO, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Newspapers are still the most used daily news channels by Norwegians who are over 18 years old, according to a report of Norwegian Media Businesses' Association (MBL) published Thursday.

Seven in 10 interviewees are subscribed to at least one newspaper or magazine, while those who do not have any subscription do not feel informed enough, the report said.

"We find that the news media cover a variety of needs among those who have a subscription and that different types of newspapers complement each other by meeting different needs," said Bente Havimb, MBL's market analyst.

"There has been a huge growth in payment solutions for digital news services. There was an increase from 3 percent in 2011 to 88 percent in 2017 among the newspapers that publish news online and that have introduced a form of payment solution," she said.

According to the report, local newspapers hold the strongest position, as eight in 10 subscribers buy local or regional newspapers.

Half of Norwegians who do not have any subscription name free online access to news sources as one of the reasons for non-subscription, while only 5 percent said they were not interested in newspapers' writings.

People with no subscription are more likely to struggle in orienting themselves in the news image and find news they are interested in. They rely less on the news, read less news with views other than their own, and use less a varied range of sources to news, the MBL report said.
