ANKARA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with Saudi crown prince on Wednesday to discuss the joint efforts to shed light all aspects of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The phone conversation was made at request of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to Turkish presidential sources.

Two leaders discussed the steps to be taken for the investigation.

Khashoggi, a columnist for U.S. newspaper The Washington Post and a critic of the Saudi government, has been missing since his entry into the Saudi consulate in Turkey's Istanbul on Oct. 2.

The kingdom said early Saturday that Khashoggi had died in a "brawl" in its consulate, without explaining the cause of his death.
