SARAJEVO, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Members of Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH's) State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) found on Wednesday record amount of mine explosives buried underground in Modrica, a city located 195 km north of the capital Sarajevo.

In the report published on SIPA's official website on Wednesday, it was stated that police found a total of 216 mortar shells, 110 lighters and powder filling for mortar shells.

In a detailed report, it was stated that SIPA police members found 49 mortar shells of 120 mm caliber, 95 mortar shells of 82 mm and 72 mortar shells of 60 mm caliber.

Explosives found were left after the country's 1992-1995 war and will be deposited in a warehouse of BiH's Armed Forces, SIPA said.

Official statistics for BiH suggest that some 16,000 tons of weapons or nearly 40,000 pieces of weapons remain illegally in the public domain, the EU delegation in BiH stated.

Last year, a total of 13,000 pieces of small and light weapons and components were destroyed.
