Goffin beats Grand Slam winner Wawrinka at Italian Open

ROME, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The former French Open champion Stan Wawrinka was defeated by Belgium's David Goffin in the first round of the Italian Open on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Belgian player won the encounter with 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 in one hour and 55 minutes against the three-time Grand Slam winner from Switzerland.

Goffin will have a meeting with Argentine seventh seed Jual Martin Del Potro next for a place in the third round.
