TRIPOLI, July 18 (Xinhua) -- The UN-backed Libyan government on Thursday accused the rival eastern-based army of kidnapping a member of the eastern-based House of Representatives.

The government held that the army "totally responsible for this crime, which is a systematic policy of the incitement to violence and sedition between Libyans."

The government demanded that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and international organizations should interfere.

The UNSMIL expressed concern over the disappearance of Siham Sergewa, calling on Libyan authorities to investigate the attack on Sergewa's residence, disclose her whereabouts, and calling for immediate release of the parliament member.

Benghazi is controlled by the eastern-based army, which is currently engaged in a deadly armed conflict against the UN-backed government over the control of capital Tripoli.

Libya has been suffering escalating violence and political instability since the fall of former leader Gaddafi's government in 2011.
