BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- A total of 127 ambulances are set to head for hospitals in poverty-stricken regions in China, the China Siyuan Foundation for Poverty Alleviation announced Thursday.

For now, 3,592 ambulances have been donated to poor counties nationwide, with each of the 592 national-level impoverished counties having received at least three ambulances, the foundation said.

The vehicles will help improve local medical services, in particular, emergency treatment, and further meet the needs of people from all ethnic groups, said Liang Qiongping, head of the Yao medicine hospital in Jinxiu County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, one of the recipient hospitals.

The foundation was established by the Central Committee of China National Democratic Construction Association in 2007, with the aim of prompting enterprises' engagement in poverty relief and other charity projects.
